Tehran Conference: Big Three Meet

Tehran Conference: Big Three Meet

On November 28, 1943, the Tehran Conference took place, where the 'Big Three' leaders—Franklin D. Roosevelt, Joseph Stalin, and Winston Churchill—met secretly in Tehran, Iran.

They discussed important war strategies, including the invasion of Nazi-occupied France, which was planned for May 1944.

They also talked about what would happen after the war, like the future of Poland and how to prevent Germany from causing trouble again.

Additionally, the Soviet Union agreed to help fight Japan after Germany was defeated.

On the same day in 1919, Nancy Astor became the first woman to sit in the UK House of Commons.

She was an American by birth and entered politics by chance when she replaced her husband, who had moved to the House of Lords.

Astor was known for her work on women's issues, poverty, and raising the drinking age.

She served in the House of Commons until 1945.
