Cartoonist Manjul Faces Scrutiny Over Mamata Banerjee Cartoons
A cartoonist named Manjul is getting attention from the police in West Bengal, India, because of some old drawings he made.
These drawings, or cartoons, were posted on social media and show the Chief Minister of West Bengal.
The police are concerned that the cartoons might break some laws.
The social media site, X, told Manjul about this, and this is the second time the police have raised concerns about the same cartoons.
So far, the cartoons are still up, but the police have expressed their disagreement with the cartoons' content.
Cartoonist Manjul received a second notice from X regarding cartoons of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
The West Bengal police flagged two of Manjul's tweets from May 2019 as potentially violating Indian laws.
The cartoons in question depict Mamata Banerjee, with one related to defections and another to a chit-fund scam.
The first notice came from the West Bengal Cyber Crime Wing; the second, from the Kolkata Police.
X informed Manjul of the requests but has not taken any action on the reported content.
