Telangana HC Orders Fisheries Elections, Overturns Rythu Bandhu Payout Order

Telangana HC Orders Fisheries Elections, Overturns Rythu Bandhu Payout Order

The Telangana High Court is a big court in India that makes decisions about the rules people must follow.

In one case, some people asked the court to make sure elections happen for groups called fisheries cooperative societies, which help fishermen and fish sellers work together.

The court told the government to hold these elections and not delay them.

It also said the groups' leaders should be chosen in a fair, democratic way within three weeks.

In another case, the court talked about a program called Rythu Bandhu, which gives money to farmers to help them grow crops.

A few years ago, some farmers wanted the court to make the government give them this money, and an earlier judge agreed.

But the government said it could not pay everyone and only gave money to farmers with smaller farms because there was not enough money during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The High Court's bigger panel of judges said a court cannot force the government to pay money that was not planned in its budget.

So the bigger panel changed the earlier decision, and the government did not have to pay those farmers for that year.
