Iran Receives US Response to West Asia War Proposal

Iran Receives US Response to West Asia War Proposal

Iran and the United States have been in conflict for about seven months.

Iran suggested conditions for stopping the fighting and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

The United States has now sent an official response to that proposal.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi gave the response to President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Iran has not said what the response contains.

Iran wants a ceasefire across West Asia, including in Lebanon.

It also wants sanctions lifted, frozen assets released and the US naval blockade ended.

The Strait of Hormuz is important because many oil and gas shipments pass through it.

Fighting has slowed, but Iran says its Revolutionary Guards are still stopping or striking some smaller ships.
