Gorkha Leaders Meet Interlocutor for Gorkhaland Talks
A special person named Pankaj Kumar Singh came to the Darjeeling area to talk about important issues.
Leaders from different political groups, like the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha and the BJP, met with him.
They talked about their long-standing demand for a separate state called Gorkhaland and other important matters.
Some leaders hope that Singh will help bring everyone together to find a solution.
However, another leader named Anit Thapa thinks that Singh's visit is just a way for the BJP to get more votes in the upcoming elections.
Singh will meet with different groups and try to understand their problems to find a fair solution.
Leaders from the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha and the BJP met with Pankaj Kumar Singh, the interlocutor appointed by the Centre, to discuss the Gorkhaland state demand.
The Morcha leaders and BJP representatives submitted memoranda emphasizing the demand for a separate Gorkhaland state and Scheduled Tribe status for 11 Gorkha communities.
An alternative proposal suggested a Union territory with a legislative Assembly like Puducherry, considering the geographical and national security aspects of the region.
BJP leaders requested fair, transparent, and equitable discussions, free from political bias, and inclusive participation from all stakeholders.
The Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha (BGPM) alleged that the interlocutor's visit is an attempt to consolidate votes for the BJP ahead of the Assembly elections.
