Bengaluru Metro Phase II Expansion Faces Delays, Cost Overruns
The Bengaluru Metro is building new train tracks, but it's taking much longer than expected.
Almost a decade after starting, a large part of the new tracks is still not done.
This is because of problems with getting land, deciding who would build the tracks, changing plans, and even the pandemic.
Because it's taking longer, the project costs a lot more money.
The Yellow Line is ready for trains, but the trains haven't arrived yet.
The Pink Line won't be finished until 2026.
In the meantime, there was a 5-hour disruption on the Purple line.
Namma Metro Phase II is significantly behind schedule, with over 40km of lines remaining incomplete.
The project's cost increased from Rs 26,405 crore to Rs 40,614 crore due to delays.
The Yellow Line is ready but awaits coaches, while the Pink Line has been postponed to 2026.
Delays stemmed from land acquisition, tender issues, design changes, contractor financial issues, and the pandemic.
A technical snag disrupted Purple Line services for five hours.
