Speaker Proposes 'No Work, No Pay' for Legislators
Imagine your job, but instead of getting paid if you don't show up, you do.
That's what Ayyanna Patrudu, a speaker, thinks is wrong with some lawmakers.
He believes if they don't attend sessions, they shouldn't get paid.
Currently, some lawmakers skip important meetings but still get their salaries.
The speaker also wants more regular meetings, perhaps at least 60 days a year.
He discussed these ideas with another speaker, who said it would be discussed further.
The goal is to make sure lawmakers do their job of representing the people and discussing important issues.
Assembly Speaker Ayyanna Patrudu proposed 'No Work, No Pay' for lawmakers.
He suggested at least 60 days of mandatory Assembly sessions annually.
The proposal was made at the National Conference on Empowerment of Women in Tirupati.
