India Stresses Reciprocity as Bangladesh Seeks Hasina Extradition

India Stresses Reciprocity as Bangladesh Seeks Hasina Extradition

Bangladesh wants India to send former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina back to Bangladesh.

It also wants other people accused of crimes to be handed over.

India says it is studying these requests using its normal procedures.

India also says its relationship with Bangladesh should be based on fairness and equal treatment.

The two countries disagree about what should happen next.

This disagreement may affect plans for Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to visit India.

Bangladesh says it needs a clear answer from India.

India says it has invited the Bangladeshi prime minister but has not confirmed a visit date.

The extradition requests were first made in 2024 and have been repeated.
