Telangana Celebrates Ratha Saptami with Rituals
People in Telangana and Tirumala are celebrating a special day called Ratha Saptami.
On this day, they wake up early and take a special bath in rivers or at temples to honor the Sun God.
They use seven special leaves called Jilledu on their head, shoulders, knees, and feet while saying special words.
This is believed to cleanse them of past mistakes and make them healthy.
In Tirumala, the Lord Malayappa Swamy is taken out in a grand procession on different chariots, blessing the devotees.
After the bath, people offer water to the rising sun, do special exercises, light lamps, and say prayers for good health and happiness.
Many people visit sun temples, where special ceremonies take place.
This day is also called Arogya Saptami because it is very important for health.
The rituals help people feel refreshed and connected to nature.
Thousands of devotees in Telangana and Tirumala are preparing for pre-dawn holy dips and rituals to honor the Sun God on Ratha Saptami, marking Surya Jayanti.
The main ritual, Arunodaya Snan, involves bathing eastwards with seven Jilledu (Arka) leaves placed on the head, shoulders, knees, and feet, accompanied by chants.
In Tirumala, Lord Malayappa Swamy was taken out in the Surya Prabha Vahanam procession through the Mada streets, blessing devotees.
Post-bath rituals include offering Arghya water to the rising sun, performing Surya Namaskar, lighting ghee lamps, and chanting the Aditya Hridayam Stotra for vitality and prosperity.
Sun temples across the state, including Thimmapuram’s Surya Devalayam, Sri Suryanarayana Swamy Temple, Alwal’s Surya Narayana Temple, and Tirumala, are expected to draw large crowds for special ceremonies.
