Iran, Oman Close to Hormuz Shipping Deal; Aramco Fire Extinguished

Iran and Oman are working on a deal to let ships use a very important waterway called the Strait of Hormuz.

Many ships carrying oil for the whole world travel through this waterway.

Because of a war between the United States and Iran, the waterway is mostly closed.

The deal would give Iran the job of checking ships that come in and go out.

But Iran says the deal alone will not fully reopen the waterway.

Iran wants the US to stop fighting, remove sanctions, and pay for war damage first.

Iran's military, the Revolutionary Guard, says reopening the strait is not part of the talks with Oman.

In another place, firefighters put out a fire at an oil facility owned by Saudi Aramco in Jizan.

That facility was already shut down after an attack weeks earlier.

So even if the deal happens, shipping may stay limited for a while.
