IDF Soldiers Walk Out Over Tradition Dispute
A group of Israeli soldiers from the Givati Brigade left their base without permission because their commander had taken down some signs they had put up.
The commander said the signs were insulting to new soldiers.
The soldiers said the signs were part of their unit’s tradition.
They left the base and even left their weapons behind.
The army is looking into what happened.
This is not the first time soldiers have walked out over similar complaints.
Dozens of IDF soldiers from the Givati Brigade’s Tzabar Battalion left Sde Teiman base without authorization after a dispute with their commander.
The commander ordered the removal of decorative signs that soldiers had erected, citing material that allegedly humiliated rookie soldiers.
Soldiers defended the signs as part of the unit’s tradition.
Troops abandoned their weapons and left the base, prompting an investigation by the IDF.
The incident follows previous mass walkouts by Israeli infantry over alleged unfair treatment.
