Aadhaar Authentication Required for Subsidised LPG Refills From October
Starting October 1, 2026, people will need biometric Aadhaar authentication to book LPG refills at subsidised prices.
This means their identity and LPG connection will be checked using Aadhaar and biometric information.
People who have already completed the process do not need to do it again.
Others can complete it when their cylinder is delivered, at their distributor's office, or through their oil company's app.
The government says this will help subsidies reach genuine and eligible households.
It also says the process can reduce duplicate connections and stop domestic cylinders from being diverted to commercial or industrial users.
Nearly 90% of active consumers had completed authentication by September 19.
People who do not authenticate can still get LPG, but they must register their choice and pay the market price without a subsidy.
They may receive 5 kg or 10 kg cylinders depending on local availability.
Biometric Aadhaar Authentication will be mandatory from October 1, 2026, to book domestic LPG refills at regulated prices with applicable subsidies.
As of September 19, 27.43 crore active consumers, or 89.9% of the total, had completed authentication.
Consumers can authenticate during delivery, at an LPG distributor's showroom, or through IndianOil ONE, HelloBPCL, and HP PAY.
The government says the measure will target subsidies to eligible households and reduce diversion, duplicate connections, and ineligible accounts.
Consumers who do not authenticate can register to receive 5 kg or 10 kg cylinders at market prices without subsidies, subject to availability.
