India nominates Meghalaya’s living root bridges for UNESCO World Heritage
India has sent a special request to UNESCO to include Meghalaya’s living root bridges in the World Heritage list for 2026-27.
These bridges are made by the Khasi and Jaintia communities using the roots of rubber trees.
They are very special because they show how people and nature live together in harmony.
The bridges have been cared for by these communities for many years.
India’s ambassador gave the request to UNESCO in Paris.
The bridges are located in the beautiful hills of Meghalaya.
The government hopes that UNESCO will accept the request and give these bridges global recognition.
