300 Stray Dogs Killed in Telangana
In a village in Telangana, India, some people, including the village heads and their families, are accused of killing about 300 stray dogs.
They supposedly gave the dogs shots that were meant to kill them.
The police found out about this after they went to the villages and saw the buried dog bodies.
Now, nine people, including the two village heads, have been booked by the police for this.
It's a very sad and serious matter because killing animals in this way is not allowed.
Animal activists say that killing stray dogs is not the right way to control their numbers and that the government should start big sterilization and vaccination programs to stop this from happening again.
Police have booked nine people, including two sarpanches and their families, for allegedly killing 300 stray dogs in Telangana's Hanumakonda district.
The dogs were reportedly killed by administering lethal injections between 6th and 8th January.
The incident came to light on 11th January after animal welfare activists and veterinary officials visited the villages and examined the buried carcasses.
The case grabbed national attention when former Union minister Maneka Gandhi intervened, pushing for the FIR to be filed and post-mortems to be conducted.
Animal activists have called for better solutions like sterilization and vaccination programs to control stray dog populations humanely.
