Jadavpur University opposes police outpost
Jadavpur University has told the Calcutta High Court that they do not want a police outpost on their campus.
They have already added more security guards and CCTV cameras.
The police wanted to set up an outpost after some students caused trouble during a visit by the education minister.
The university is against this because they think it might cause more problems, as it has in the past.
They have also mentioned that they had issues with police presence in 2005 and 2014.
The university believes they can handle security on their own.
Jadavpur University notified the Calcutta High Court of its opposition to a police outpost on campus.
The university has added 32 former army personnel as security officers and plans to install 77 more CCTV cameras.
Kolkata Police requested an outpost near gate No. 4 after students attacked education minister Bratya Basu.
The university cited past incidents, including the Hok Kolorob movement in 2014, as reasons for their opposition.
A public interest litigation highlighted the lack of adequate safety and security on the campus.
