Karnataka High Court Orders Transgender Quota in LLB
The Karnataka High Court has ordered the Karnataka State Law University (KSLU) to provide a reservation for transgender people in its three-year LLB course.
The court said that the eligibility criteria for transgender applicants should be lowered by at least 2% or to the lowest among the existing categories, whichever is more beneficial.
This order came after a transgender student was denied admission by the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) in 2023.
The court also directed NLSIU to implement a reservation policy and provide financial aid to transgender people in education.
The court will next hear the appeal on August 3.
