AP Requests Centre to Recognize Amaravati as Capital from June 2, 2024
The Andhra Pradesh government has asked the central government to officially recognize Amaravati as the state's capital starting from June 2, 2024.
This is because when the state was split in 2014, Hyderabad was supposed to be the joint capital for 10 years.
The previous government had decided to move the capital to Visakhapatnam and stopped building Amaravati.
But the new government, led by N Chandrababu Naidu, has started building Amaravati again.
They want the central government to change the law to make Amaravati the official capital from next year.
Andhra Pradesh government requests Centre to recognize Amaravati as capital from June 2, 2024.
Request aims to amend the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act 2014.
Hyderabad was joint capital for 10 years post-bifurcation in 2014.
Previous government halted Amaravati construction, planned to shift capital to Visakhapatnam.
Current government revives Amaravati project, construction of administrative towers in progress.
