Robotic Hair Transplants Can Help Selected Women, Doctor Says

Robotic hair transplantation uses cameras and computers to help take hair follicles from one part of the scalp and place them where hair is thin.

It is a type of procedure called FUE.

The robot helps with some steps, but a doctor still has to decide whether the treatment is safe and useful.

Women can benefit when their hair loss is stable and they have enough strong donor hair.

Many women have diffuse thinning, which can make transplantation more difficult.

Hair loss should be diagnosed first because medicine or another treatment may be more appropriate.

A transplant adds hair but does not necessarily stop the woman’s original hair from becoming thinner.

New hair takes several months to grow, and the final result is usually judged after nine to twelve months.

The word “robotic” does not automatically mean the result will be better.
