Manjrekar Urges ICC, BCCI Toughen Penalties After Cricket Altercations

Manjrekar Urges ICC, BCCI Toughen Penalties After Cricket Altercations

Yashasvi Jaiswal was batting for India against Sri Lanka.

Asitha Fernando dismissed him after Jaiswal had hit three boundaries in the over.

Jaiswal and Fernando exchanged words after the dismissal.

Their heads or helmets then made contact before other players separated them.

Both players admitted breaking a rule against inappropriate physical contact.

Each was fined 25% of his match fee and given one demerit point.

Sanjay Manjrekar said the punishment was too mild.

He also referred to an earlier argument involving 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

Manjrekar warned that weak punishments might make young cricketers think this behavior is acceptable.
