Sri Lanka Hosts First-Ever Women-Only Pickleball Tournament
Sri Lanka recently hosted its first-ever women-only pickleball tournament, specifically for women aged 40 and above.
The event featured doubles-only play across four divisions: Playful Divas for beginners, Precision Divas for intermediate players, Power Divas for advanced competitors, and Timeless Divas exclusively for women aged 40 and above.
This structure ensured that first-time players never had to compete against far more experienced ones, while also providing a category tailored to the needs of older women.
The tournament aimed to promote inclusivity and empowerment, offering a safe and encouraging environment for women to participate in sports.

Inclusivity and Empowerment
The tournament promotes inclusivity by creating a safe and encouraging environment for women to participate in sports, regardless of their age or skill level.
Traditional Sports Norms
Some may argue that such specialized tournaments could potentially segregate women from mainstream sports, limiting their exposure to broader competition.
Age-Specific Categories
Inclusivity and Empowerment
The Timeless Divas category specifically caters to women aged 40 and above, acknowledging their unique needs and fostering a sense of community among older players.
Traditional Sports Norms
Critics might suggest that age-specific categories could reinforce age-related stereotypes and limit the opportunities for intergenerational interaction in sports.
