Himachal Pradesh HC Grants Bail to ASI in Ex-Engineer Death Case
A police officer, Pankaj Sharma, was accused in the death of a former engineer named Vimal Negi.
The case was investigated by a special agency called the CBI.
The court decided to let Pankaj Sharma out of jail while the case continues.
The judge felt that the trial might take a very long time and it wasn't helpful to keep the officer locked up.
The court also thought the reasons the CBI gave for keeping him in jail weren't strong enough.
The engineer, Vimal Negi, had gone missing and was later found dead.
His family was upset and wanted a thorough investigation.
The case was so serious that it was given to the CBI to investigate.
The officer, Sharma, was arrested because he allegedly tampered with evidence found from the engineer's belongings.
Now, he is out on bail but will have to help the CBI if they need him.
Himachal Pradesh High Court granted bail to ASI Pankaj Sharma, the sole accused in the death of HPPCL chief engineer Vimal Negi.
The court stated that the chances of the trial commencing and concluding against Sharma do not appear bright.
The High Court found the CBI's arguments against granting bail to be weak.
Vimal Negi went missing on March 10 and was found dead on March 18; the investigation was transferred to the CBI in May.
Sharma was arrested on September 14 for allegedly hiding and tampering with evidence from Negi's clothes.
