Lok Sabha Approves Supplementary Demands for Grants
On Monday, the Lok Sabha approved a plan to spend an extra Rs 41,455.39 crore for the year 2025–26.
This extra money is needed because the government didn't plan for all the expenses they now have.
The total extra spending requested was Rs 1.32 lakh crore, but Rs 90,812 crore will come from savings and extra money the government has.
A big part of this extra money will go to subsidies, like Rs 18,525 crore for fertilizers and Rs 9,473 crore for LPG subsidies.
Other important areas getting extra money include Union Territories, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and higher education.
The Lok Sabha will also discuss and vote on these extra expenses to make sure they are used correctly.
The Lok Sabha approved the first batch of Supplementary Demands for Grants for FY26, totaling Rs 41,455.39 crore in net additional expenditure.
The total gross additional expenditure sought is Rs 1.32 lakh crore, with Rs 90,812 crore to be met through internal adjustments.
Significant allocations include Rs 18,525 crore for fertiliser subsidy and Rs 9,473 crore for LPG subsidies.
Other notable allocations are Rs 2,500 crore for Union Territories, Rs 2,298 crore for the Ministry of Home Affairs, and Rs 1,303 crore for Higher Education.
A token provision of Rs 129 lakh was sought for re-appropriation of savings for new services.
