West Bengal Says 10% CAA Applicants Received Citizenship Certificates

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said that some people who applied for citizenship under the CAA have received certificates.

He said 23,000 of about 2.3 lakh applicants have received them so far.

He promised that officials would finish hearing the other applications soon.

The applications include Hindu refugees who came from Bangladesh because of religious persecution, according to him.

He also said people who have not applied yet can still do so.

Adhikari denied that the state government is leaving out Muslim women from a cash-support program.

He said many Muslim families are already included among the beneficiaries.

He also discussed clashes at Jadavpur University and said nationalist activities would be allowed there.
