Punjab Consumer Commission Orders Resort to Refund Wedding Advance

Punjab Consumer Commission Orders Resort to Refund Wedding Advance

A family booked a luxury resort for a wedding, but the wedding was later cancelled.

The bride’s father had already paid the resort Rs 10 lakh.

The resort wanted to keep all of that money.

A consumer commission in Gurdaspur said keeping everything was unfair.

The commission allowed the resort to keep Rs 1.5 lakh for booking work and possible losses.

It ordered the resort to return the remaining Rs 8.5 lakh.

The decision was issued on August 18.

This means businesses may not always be allowed to keep an entire advance payment when an event is cancelled.
