India Marks 10th Anniversary of 2016 Surgical Strikes

India is observing the 10th anniversary of a military operation called the surgical strikes.

The operation happened on the nights of September 28 and 29, 2016.

Indian Army Special Forces crossed the Line of Control, according to the government.

They targeted terrorist launch sites in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The operation followed an attack on an Army base in Uri.

That attack killed Indian Army personnel, with government records citing 19 deaths.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis honored the Army on this anniversary.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also remembered the operation as an important response to terrorism.
