FSSAI Takes Action Against Five E-Commerce Platforms Over Violations

India’s food regulator says it has started action against five online shopping platforms.

The companies are Amazon, Swiggy Instamart, BigBasket, Flipkart India and Zepto.

The regulator says some online food listings may have broken food-safety rules.

The concerns include misleading descriptions and claims.

They also include selling or showing prohibited or poisonous food items.

FSSAI has not said which company is linked to each specific concern.

It has not named the products or explained the possible penalties.

Separately, FSSAI proposed red warning labels for packaged foods high in salt, sugar or fat.
