India FMCG Growth Hits Six-Quarter High on Rural Demand

India’s everyday-goods market grew faster in July, August and September than it had in six quarters.

Bizom measured sales value, not the number of products sold.

Rural areas grew faster than cities, although city growth improved during August and September.

Bizom said festive-season shopping helped lift city sales.

Some companies raised prices because their costs and margins were under pressure.

Experts warned that higher prices could make shoppers buy less.

They also said poor rains could hurt farm incomes and rural spending.

Packaged food grew strongly, while personal care grew more slowly.
