Supreme Court Grants Bail to DHFL Promoters
The Supreme Court of India has granted bail to the two brothers, Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhawan, who are the promoters of DHFL.
They were in jail for more than five years because of a big bank fraud case involving ₹57,252 crore.
The court said that keeping them in jail for so long without a trial is not fair.
The case is very big, with a chargesheet that is 400,000 pages long and includes 736 witnesses.
The court also said that even if they hold a trial every day, it would take at least two or three years to finish.
The brothers' lawyer is happy with the court's decision because it focuses on the rights and freedom of the accused.
Supreme Court granted bail to DHFL promoters Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhawan on 16 December 2025.
The court cited prolonged incarceration without trial as a violation of constitutional rights to liberty and speedy trial.
The brothers have spent over five years in custody, while other co-accused have been released on bail.
The investigation in the ₹57,252 crore bank fraud case is complete, with a chargesheet of 400,000 pages, 736 witnesses, and extensive digital records.
The CBI alleged that ₹34,926 crore was siphoned off through shell companies linked to the Wadhawans.
