Supreme Court Rejects Immediate CEC Suspension, Examines Election Commission Allegations

Supreme Court Rejects Immediate CEC Suspension, Examines Election Commission Allegations

A petitioner asked the Supreme Court to suspend Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar right away.

The court did not agree to do that immediately.

It said it first needs to hear from the Election Commission and look at records.

The petitioner’s lawyer said the issue could affect people’s voting rights and how elections work.

The court also asked for records about changes to a form called Form 6.

It said Election Commission decisions should be made unanimously or by majority.

The court indicated that it can set aside a decision if it later finds the decision unlawful.

The Election Commission says its decisions follow the rules and have legal support.
