Brazil Prosecutors Sue to Halt E32 Gasoline Rollout
Brazil's Federal Prosecution Service has filed a lawsuit to stop the government from increasing the amount of ethanol in gasoline from 30% to 32%.
They say more tests are needed to make sure it's safe for all cars in Brazil.
The government, however, says the new mix is safe and will start using it in August.
This change is part of Brazil's plan to make more of its own gasoline.
Brazil's Federal Prosecution Service filed a lawsuit to suspend the increase in the mandatory ethanol blend in gasoline to 32%.
The National Energy Policy Council approved the increase as part of a broader push for self-sufficiency in gasoline production.
The MPF argues that additional testing and impact analysis are needed before rolling out E32.
The Ministry of Mines and Energy asserts that E32 gasoline is technically feasible, safe, and suitable for Brazilian consumers.
The implementation of E32 is planned for August 1 and will be in effect for 180 days.
