US Threatens Iran Economic Isolation as Sanctions Enforcement Draws Scrutiny

The United States announced stronger economic pressure on Iran.

Treasury Secretary Bessent warned companies and other groups that dealing with Iran could put their access to the dollar system at risk.

The goal is to make it much harder for Iran to trade and earn money.

Some officials called the plan an "economic D-Day."

However, the United States already has many sanctions against Iran.

The main problem has been that those sanctions have not always been fully enforced.

Axios said past and current administrations have only partly followed through.

This means the new plan could depend more on enforcement than on creating new rules.
