Bhopal Police Use Citizen Tips to Fight Crime
Bhopal Police are asking residents to share information about crimes and criminals.
This effort is called Jansamvad.
Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar began holding meetings with people in different parts of Bhopal in February.
In April, police also created a special toll-free helpline for confidential crime tips.
People can also send information through WhatsApp.
Police say almost 100 tips were checked and led to action.
One tip helped officers find and arrest Ikram Qureshi, who had been avoiding arrest for nearly a month.
The tips have involved crimes such as gambling, drugs, illegal liquor and weapons.
Police want residents to become active partners in keeping their communities safe.
A resident’s tip led to the arrest of cow-slaughter suspect Ikram Qureshi after nearly a month on the run.
Nearly 100 citizen-provided tips have resulted in police action after ground verification.
The initiative began through Commissioner Sanjay Kumar’s Jansamvad public-outreach meetings across Bhopal.
Tips have helped police target gambling, betting, illicit liquor, marijuana, drugs, knife attacks and illegal firearms.
