Hitachi Rail's Mangal Dev on Decongesting Indian Railways
Mangal Dev from Hitachi Rail talked about how Indian Railways can handle more trains and goods.
He said the railways should focus on making the busy parts of the network less crowded.
This can be done by building more special paths for cargo trains, called freight corridors.
These corridors can run a train every 10 minutes and carry more goods.
Dev also mentioned that using better technology and planning can help make the railways safer and more efficient.
He suggested that the railways should also carry more types of goods, not just big loads, to compete with trucks.
This would make the railways more useful and environmentally friendly.
Hitachi Rail is also involved in the bullet train project and other railway improvements.
Mangal Dev suggests building additional dedicated freight corridors to decongest the High Density Network (HDN) of Indian Railways.
The two existing Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFCs) have improved freight loading and introduced advanced technologies.
Electronic Interlocking and centralised traffic centres help decongest sections and improve safety.
Diversifying commodities in freight transport and providing last-mile connectivity can make railways more competitive.
Hitachi Rail is involved in the bullet train project and other railway capacity-building initiatives.
