Seven Maharashtra Waterways Feasible for Development
The Indian government has found that seven out of 14 waterways in Maharashtra are good for development.
These waterways, like the Godavari and Tapi rivers, are important for moving goods and people.
The government wants to make these waterways better so that more cargo can be transported, which will help the economy in places like Raigad and Ratnagiri.
The Maharashtra Logistics Policy-2024 is also working on improving ports and connecting them to other parts of the state.
This will make it easier to move goods and help businesses grow.
The Centre identified 14 national waterways in Maharashtra, with seven found feasible for development.
The seven feasible waterways include major rivers and creeks like the Godavari and Tapi.
These waterways have a total navigable length of 662.97 km.
In 2024-25, six of these waterways handled 45.35% of the total inland water transport cargo in the country.
The Maharashtra Logistics Policy-2024 aims to strengthen coastal logistics and promote port-led industrialization.
