SC Dismisses Plea Challenging Muslim Girl's Marriage Protection
The Supreme Court said that the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) couldn't fight a court decision to protect a 16-year-old Muslim girl and her husband.
The court agreed that, according to Muslim law, a girl who has reached puberty can marry, even if other laws say she must be older.
The NCPCR wanted to argue this broke child protection laws.
However, the court said the NCPCR had no right to interfere because the couple was already safe.
The court also highlighted that not all cases involving young people are the same and some are simply about love.
Supreme Court dismissed NCPCR's challenge to protect a 16-year-old Muslim girl and her husband.
The case stemmed from a High Court order that granted protection to the couple.
High Court upheld the validity of the marriage under Muslim personal law.
NCPCR argued that the marriage violated child marriage and POCSO laws.
The Supreme Court stated the NCPCR had no standing to challenge the order.
