Maharashtra Mandates TET for Ashram School Teachers
The government of Maharashtra has said that teachers in Ashram Schools, which are for tribal children, must pass a special test called the Teachers' Eligibility Test (TET).
This rule applies to teachers who have more than five years left before they retire.
They must pass this test by September 1, 2027.
If they don't pass the test, they might lose their jobs.
This rule is being put in place because of a decision made by the Supreme Court, India's highest court.
The goal is to make sure that all teachers meet certain standards to teach children better.
Maharashtra's tribal development department mandates TET for Ashram School teachers with more than 5 years until retirement.
Teachers must pass the TET within two years, by September 1, 2027.
Non-compliance will result in termination of service.
The mandate aligns with the Supreme Court's ruling on the retrospective implementation of the TET.
The rule applies to teachers appointed before the implementation of the Right to Education Act, 2009.
