HDFC Bank CEO Sashidhar Jagdishan to Retire Amid Scrutiny

HDFC Bank CEO Sashidhar Jagdishan to Retire Amid Scrutiny

Sashidhar Jagdishan has worked at HDFC Bank since 1996.

He started in finance and eventually became the bank’s chief executive.

He took over from Aditya Puri in 2020, during the pandemic.

While he was CEO, HDFC Bank completed a very large merger with Housing Development Finance Corporation.

The bank also increased its loans and deposits.

Near the end of his tenure, regulators and investors raised questions about the bank’s Dubai operations and governance.

The bank dismissed some executives and disciplined Jagdishan and two other senior executives over separate concerns.

HDFC Bank said an external review did not support the wider concerns raised by former chairman Atanu Chakraborty.

Jagdishan decided not to seek another term and will leave the bank on 26 October.
