Mumbai Police Noticed for Failing to File FIR Against BJP Leader
A lawyer in Mumbai sent a legal notice to the police because they didn't file a report against a BJP leader named Amit Satam.
The lawyer says Satam made mean and divisive comments that could cause trouble between communities.
The police haven't done anything about it yet, even though there's evidence and people are upset.
The lawyer wants the police to file a report and take action against Satam for his words.
A Congress MP also asked the police to do this.
Satam had said things like he wouldn't let someone with a certain last name become mayor, which some people found offensive.
Mumbai-based lawyer Abid Abbas Sayyed sent a legal notice to the Mumbai Police Commissioner for failing to file an FIR against BJP leader Amit Satam for alleged hate speech.
The notice cites multiple instances where Satam made communal statements, including 'We will never allow any Khan to become a mayor' and 'We are not afraid of sons of Pakistan like you'.
The lawyer claims these statements are inflammatory and capable of inciting communal hostility, falling under cognisable offences in the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
Congress MP Varsha Gaikwad led a delegation and submitted a written complaint to the Mumbai Police Commissioner, urging the registration of an FIR against Satam under various sections of the BNS 2023.
The notice demands immediate FIR filing against Satam for promoting enmity and public hatred, with no investigation initiated by the police despite documented evidence and public outrage.
