Shri Ramlila Mahasangh Demands Pre‑Release Screening of Ramayana
A Hindu group called Shri Ramlila Mahasangh wants the makers of a new Ramayana movie to show it to them before it goes to theaters.
They are worried the film might hurt people’s religious feelings, just like a 2023 movie called Adipurush did.
The group says they will protest if the film isn’t shown to them first.
The new movie stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama and Yash as Ravana, and it will come out during the Diwali festival in 2026.
The group also wants to make sure the costumes and scenes look right for the story.
The film’s music is being made by famous composers Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman.
Shri Ramlila Mahasangh, led by Arjun Kumar, has requested a special preview of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: Part 1 before its Diwali 2026 release.
The request follows backlash over 2023 film Adipurush, which faced criticism for its depiction of Lanka and Ravana.
The Mahasangh warns that if the preview is denied, it and other Hindu groups will stage protests outside cinemas in Delhi and other states.
Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Yash as Ravana, Sai Pallavi as Sita, with music by Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman.
The film’s trailer has already sparked debate over costume design and perceived modernisation of the epic.
