PM Internship Scheme Sees Record 10,000+ Entries in Third Pilot Round
The Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) has set a new record with over 10,000 candidates joining in its third round.
This round, which started in April and will run until December, has already seen more participants than the first two rounds combined.
The government made several changes to the scheme to make it more attractive, such as increasing the monthly stipend to Rs 9,000, expanding the eligible age group to 18-25 years, and reducing the internship duration to 6-9 months.
The scheme now also includes smaller businesses and professional bodies.
The top participating states are Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Assam.
The government is actively promoting the scheme through awareness campaigns in colleges across the country.
The PM Internship Scheme's third pilot round has recorded 10,195 candidates joining, surpassing the first (8,760) and second (7,300) pilot rounds.
340 companies have offered 1.22 lakh internship opportunities across 31 sectors in the third pilot round.
Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of candidates joining internships with 2,038, followed by Maharashtra with 771 and Assam with 699.
The government overhauled the scheme in March, increasing the monthly stipend to Rs 9,000, expanding the eligible age group to 18-25 years, and reducing the internship duration to 6-9 months.
The scheme now includes micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), global capability centres (GCCs), and professional bodies like the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).
