Karnataka High Court Sentences Advocate To One-Day Imprisonment

The Karnataka High Court punished advocate Pankaj Kaushik for contempt of court.

Contempt means behaving in a way that seriously disrespects or obstructs the court.

The case involved his conduct before a civil court in Karwar district.

He was allegedly in an inebriated condition at the time.

The High Court said he made insulting and unsupported statements about judicial officers and judges.

The court ordered him to remain in prison for one day, until the court session ended.

It also ordered him to pay a fine of Rs 2,000.

The judges said punishment was needed to prevent similar behavior and protect the justice system.
