Fat-Headed Humans and Dragon Man Coexisted in China
A long time ago, in what is now China, there were two different kinds of early humans.
One was called Homo juluensis, which had a very big head, and the other was called Homo longi, also known as the Dragon Man.
Scientists found bones of these humans and used special methods to figure out how old they were.
They discovered that both kinds of humans lived in the same place at the same time, around 150,000 years ago.
This is exciting because it shows that different types of humans lived together in the same area a very long time ago.
The scientists think this helps us understand more about how humans evolved.
Homo juluensis, known as Large-Headed Man, coexisted with Homo longi (Dragon Man) in northern China.
Uranium-series dating confirmed their presence between 138,000 and 228,000 years ago.
Fossils of H. juluensis were first discovered in Hebei Province in the 1970s but were only named in 2024.
Previous dating methods suggested ages ranging from 500,000 to 69,000 years ago, but uranium-series dating provided a more accurate timeline.
The study indicates that multiple human species inhabited northern China during the Middle Pleistocene.
