Large-Scale Eviction Drive in Assam's Doboka
In Assam, India, the government is carrying out a big operation to remove people who have been living on forest land they shouldn't be using.
This land, called Jamuna Maudanga Reserved Forest, is about 6,000 bighas (a unit of land measurement).
Around 1,250 families have been living there illegally.
The government is using police and big machines to clear the area.
Some families are leaving on their own, while others are being asked to leave.
The government says this is to protect the forest.
Some people are upset and say the government should help these families find new homes.
The situation is tense but under control.
A large-scale eviction drive began in Doboka, Hojai district, Assam to clear encroachments from the Jamuna Maudanga Reserved Forest.
The operation aims to reclaim 6,000 bighas of forest land illegally occupied by around 1,250 families.
152 families with pending court cases are temporarily excluded from the eviction, while 1,098 families are being evicted.
Elaborate security arrangements, including Assam Police and CRPF personnel, have been put in place to ensure smooth conduct of the operation.
The eviction drive has drawn reactions from various political parties and organizations, with some alleging political motives and demanding proper rehabilitation for the affected families.
