Centre and States to Discuss New Labour Policy Framework
Imagine the government wants to create a new set of rules for jobs and workers across the whole country.
This new plan is called the Shram Niti.
The main leaders for jobs from the central government will meet with the leaders from each state.
They will talk about this new plan to make sure everyone agrees.
They want the government to help more with creating jobs, not just making rules.
They will also talk about how to make sure more workers have safety nets like insurance or pensions.
They will look at a big list of workers and see how many are covered by these safety nets.
They also want to connect different government lists of workers together.
This meeting is happening soon in the capital city.
The Union labour ministry will hold a meeting with state labour ministers on November 11-12 in the national capital.
The meeting's focus is the recently released draft Shram Niti, India's first national policy on labour and employment.
The policy aims to transform the ministry's role from primarily regulatory to an 'employment facilitator'.
Discussions will also cover expanding social security coverage and integrating the eShram database with other schemes.
Implementation of the new labour codes is not on the formal agenda but can be discussed if states wish.
