Meghna Gulzar Says Hope Drives Films About Crime, Justice
Meghna Gulzar makes films about difficult issues involving crime and justice.
She says these issues make her angry, but she does not want people to lose hope.
Her new film, Daayra, is about a rape and murder case and the justice system.
Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran play two senior police officers.
The officers have different ideas about duty and what is right or wrong.
Gulzar previously made Talvar and Chhapaak.
She believes those films were followed by developments that brought some sense of change.
She hopes Daayra will also encourage people to improve law enforcement and the courts.
Meghna Gulzar says outrage over crime and justice inspires her filmmaking, but hope and optimism remain essential.
Her upcoming film Daayra examines the aftermath of a rape and murder and the workings of the justice system.
Gulzar cites Talvar’s later court judgment and Chhapaak’s renewed focus on acid-sale regulation as forms of redemption.
Daayra stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran as senior law-enforcement officers with contrasting views of duty and justice.
Produced by Junglee Pictures and Pen Studios, Daayra is scheduled to reach theatres on Friday.
