Disney Sells A+E Stake to Hearst for $1 Billion

Disney Sells A+E Stake to Hearst for $1 Billion

Disney owns half of a company that runs TV channels like A&E and History.

It wants to sell that half to a company called Hearst for more than $1 billion.

The sale will make Hearst the only owner of the company.

Disney says it is doing this because cable TV is not as popular as it used to be, and it wants to focus on streaming services.

The deal will be announced with Disney’s earnings report on August 5, 2026.

A+E Global Media also has other channels and streaming services.

Disney’s investment in the company was worth about $2 billion, but it recorded a $147 million loss in the last quarter.

The sale is part of a larger trend of media companies selling cable assets.

Hearst will keep the same leaders in the company, like Paul Buccieri.

This move shows how big companies are changing their strategies in the media world.
