India Post Eyes Commercial Growth From Its Vast Network
India Post has many post offices and workers across the country.
A report by Prequate says this network could be used to offer more services to businesses and people.
Ideas include storing goods, delivering parcels, and providing government services.
The report says renting storage space could be especially promising.
It estimates that five ideas could increase India Post’s earnings by FY2036.
India Post has already seen growth in parcel revenue and some citizen services.
But earning more money will depend on attracting customers and controlling costs.
The report’s large opportunity estimate is a model, not an official government forecast.
India Post operates around 165,000 post offices and has approximately 474,000 workers, including more than 278,000 Gramin Dak Sevaks.
Prequate assessed over 100 commercial opportunities and shortlisted eight, including warehousing, parcel fulfilment, transport capacity and government services.
On-demand warehousing was the highest-rated initiative, with a viability score of 0.86.
Prequate estimates five initiatives could add ₹18,209 crore in EBITDA by FY2036, bringing total EBITDA to around ₹19,528 crore.
The ₹1.94 lakh crore opportunity is based on Prequate’s models and assumptions, not an official India Post or government valuation.
