Thackeray Leaders Join Mumbai Protest, Vow to Intensify Stir

People gathered near Shivaji Park in Mumbai to support a protest by the Cockroach Janta Party.

The party says there were problems with voter lists and wants Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to resign.

Aaditya Thackeray and Amit Thackeray arrived with supporters.

Police detained dozens of people in nearby areas, and officials said some were stopped before reaching the protest.

Police said protests without permission could lead to legal action.

Aaditya Thackeray alleged that police had pushed and hurt party supporters, including women.

He said the protest would grow, while Amit Thackeray said his party’s activists would join from the next day.

Police increased security and put up barricades to maintain order during Navratri.
