Lawyer Urges Preservation of Ancient Wells in Pilibhit
Imagine Pilibhit used to have lots of water wells, like having many taps to get water.
Now, a lawyer wants to save the remaining wells, which are like old water taps.
He's asking the government to help because these wells give people water and help keep the ground water healthy.
Many of the wells are gone because people stopped using them and the area changed, causing the wells to dry up.
The lawyer wants these wells to be fixed to solve the water shortage.
A lawyer is urging the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) and the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to preserve over 1,500 ancient wells in Pilibhit.
The lawyer highlights the need to maintain drinking water supply and protect cultural symbols.
Pilibhit once had over 10,000 wells, but most have been neglected or lost to development.
Only an estimated 100 to 150 wells remain in the district.
Experts say wells are crucial for maintaining the groundwater table.
