Jayanta Bhowmik Honoured for Cricket Coaching and Mentorship
Jayanta Bhowmik loved playing cricket and wanted to help other kids from his town play too.
Even when some adults told him it was a waste of time, he didn't give up.
He started a special cricket school in Siliguri to teach young boys and girls.
He even helped make the school have real grass fields to practice on.
Because of his hard work, many students, including famous players like Wriddhiman Saha, got to play cricket professionally.
He was recently given an award to thank him for being such a good teacher and helping so many young athletes.
Jayanta Bhowmik was honored at The Telegraph School Awards for Excellence 2025 North Bengal with the TTEF Honour for an Educationist.
Bhowmik faced skepticism in the 1980s when moving from a subdivisional town to play first-division cricket.
He founded the Agragami Cricket Coaching Centre in Siliguri in the early 2000s to coach young players.
The coaching center has produced cricketers like Wriddhiman Saha and Debabrata Das.
Bhowmik's center now trains over 500 cricketers, including girls, and has developed professional facilities with turf wickets.
